Today I’m showing you my Air Arms S400 with my brand new Daviesbuilt Gunstocks stock. Anyone who likes beautiful wood and rifle customizing will be delighted with today’s article.
After waiting for more than a year, I recently received this beautiful product. For me, this long timeframe shows how popular Tom Davies’ unique products are and how fully booked the young English stock maker is.
Anyone who has been following my YouTube channel and my blog for a while knows that this isn’t my first post about him. I have also had an incredibly unique stock made for my Weihrauch HW 30 S.
However, today I want to talk about the S400 and the modifications I have made to the gun.
Have fun reading, but above all enjoy the photos and the video!
Air Arms S400
Anyone who follows my videos closely knows that Air Arms S400 is one of my absolute favorite rifles.
I deliberately won’t say that it’s my favorite rifle just because it’s the one I shoot the most at the moment. After all, anyone who has spent any time with our hobby knows that you need variety when shooting.
Sometimes I like to plink, sometimes I like to shoot semi-automatic rifles and sometimes I like to snipe. No air rifle fulfills all these requirements. That’s why there is no such thing as “the best” or “my favorite rifle”.
In one of my last videos in 2023, I posted an overview of what I consider to be the best air rifles. And the S400 was my number 1 in the “compressed air rifles up to 1000 euros” class.
What is the reason for this?
It’s quite simple: The rifle is perfectly simple and simply perfect. There are no frills. No magazine, regulator or other features. It focuses on the essentials: precision and outstanding workmanship. So, if you just want to shoot with maximum precision but don’t want to spend 2000 or 3000 euros, have a look at Air Arms S400.
But that wasn’t enough for me
Yes, sometimes I just tend to overdo it. Anyone who knows me probably knows that. But that’s just how I am.
Since I often use my S400, I wanted to make it as nice looking as possible. First of all, of course I have not made any technical changes. I just wanted to adjust the rifle a little better to my height and redesign it a bit to fit my personal liking.
So, the first step was to buy a lot of different tuning accessories. That reminds me… do you already know our tuning guide? Take a look, you will surely find tuning parts for your air rifle.
Now, let’s get back to my Air Arms.
I think the beautiful walnut wood and the black system go well with gold. That’s why I bought some tuning parts in this color.
We also have many of these parts in a slightly more neutral color, in black in my store at www.jabolo.de.
I have installed the tuning trigger blade, the compensator, a cocking lever and a different barrel band from Rowan Engineering.
My rifle belt from Ostermayer Jagd also has my initials engraved in gold. So, for me, the result is a wonderful combination.
The S400 stock
Now, however, we move on to the highlight. The beautiful French walnut stock. When Tom showed me the unprocessed wood, I couldn’t even imagine what it would look like.
The wood looked gray and pale in the photos. I could already see the beautiful grain. However, I couldn’t have imagined the finished result. I simply don’t have the experience.
We then worked out the shape of the stock. It should of course fit my height exactly.
I wanted the following specifics: I want to be able to shoot with it while sitting, I want to be able to use a bipod, I want to shoot in a standing position and also have the option for HFT.
And you can see the result of these requirements in the pictures and in my video:
My conclusion
Of course, a custom-made stock is not cheap. But once you have fallen in love with a rifle, these costs are absolutely acceptable. Better than buying a second rifle that I won’t shoot as often as this beautiful one anyway.
Once again, I was blown away by Tom’s work and at no point do I regret giving him another order for my rifle stock.
I don’t have another project for the time being, but knowing me, that won’t take too long.
How do you like his work?
Do you like the golden highlights on the rifle or would you have chosen a different color?
Thank you for reading my post and watching my video!
See you next week!
Best wishes!
Yours, Andi
