Today I shoot on my Sport Quantum SQ10 with the most powerful Weihrauch spring-piston air rifle, namely Weihrauch HW 80 SL.
HW 80 SL is not only popular in Germany. Abroad, where there is no limit of 7.5J, many shooters opt for this model. HW 80 and HW 80 SL are the most powerful spring-piston air rifles on the market.

Technical specifications of HW 80 SL
Weihrauch HW 80 SL is a spring-piston air rifle. The automatic safety is activated when the rifle is cocked. The safety can then be pushed back with the thumb. Then you can pull the trigger of the Weihrauch match trigger Record to release the shot.
Weihrauch’s match trigger Rekord is known to be one of the best or the best air rifle triggers on the international market. The first stage travel, trigger weight, and trigger pull are adjustable.
HW 80 SL has an ambidextrous cheek piece and is therefore equally suitable for both left- and right-handed shooters.
The cocking process is smooth. A light tap on the barrel and then it can be pulled down without much effort.
Nevertheless, operating the rifle requires some physical fitness. Due to the rather high weight, long shooting sessions will eventually break a sweat, especially in th summer. But that’s not a disadvantage, it’s a lot of fun for shooters who are prepared for it.
Shooting with Weihrauch HW 80 SL
I have to admit that I prefer pneumatic air rifles more and more. I can’t explain exactly why that is. After all, I also enjoy shooting with a spring-piston rifle. Perhaps the range of high-quality pneumativ air rifles is now simply larger, or the trend is generally developing in this direction.
The lack of routine is the problem I’ve been having with spring-piston air rifles lately.
Nevertheless, I’m taking up the challenge today and will be shooting at moving balloons on my Sport Quantum SQ10:

I shot both large and small balloons in my shooting test and managed to score every single shot. Maybe I was a bit nervous about my shooting skills beforehand.
I definitely didn’t want viewers who don’t know me to watch the video and think: This rifle sucks. It was the other way around. Despite not having practiced much, I didn’t have any problems with it.
The handling of the gun is flawless and loading the larger 5.5mm / .22″ pellets is easier than loading 4.5mm / .177” pellets.
I would say the recoil is medium to strong. But as you saw in the video, you can still score well with it.
My conclusion
Every shooter who is looking for a “real men’s rifle” can buy a Weihrauch HW 80 SL without hesitation. The rifle is big, it’s heavy and with its large caliber it has a completely different appearance than a small, delicate Weihrauch HW 30 S, for example.
