Why are we talking about the H&N Dust Devil BBs today?
Why I don’t like steel BBs
I’ve often thought about buying a CO2 pistol for home use. An air pistol with BBs and a very high magazine capacity would be great. I want to have fun with the air pistol and just plink. Unfortunately, I really don’t think steel BBs are ideal for using at home.
It’s no problem when being outside, but when the BBs fly through my apartment it’s a bit uncomfortable for me, despite the safety glasses I always wear. I’ve also tested CO2 guns that work with diabolos. This is of course also an alternative, but it takes much longer to load.
During my daily excursions through online shops, I noticed the H&N Dust Devil BBs.
For which pistols are H&N Dust Devil BBs suitable?
They can be used in CO2 rifles and pistols that are otherwise intended for steel BBs and have a smooth barrel. The latter must be checked accurately, otherwise the BBs can or will get stuck.
I decided that I want to try the Dust Devils for sure. Will they really turn to dust on impact? And where does all the dust go then?
I used a Steyr Mannlicher M9-A1 Dual Tone for this test. It has a smooth barrel. And since it has 3.3 joules, you can shoot it from 10 meters. I put the CO2 cartridge into the pistol, screwed in the piercing screw (is that its name?!) and loaded the magazine. The semi-automatic feeling is really cool. Quickly the 19 shots from the magazine were shot through the smooth barrel into the bullet trap.
I noticed on the target that the BBs didn’t bounce back since only the entrance hole was visible. Rebounds would have caused a second hole.
Here, take a look at what I found in the bullet trap.
I would say that the test was successful. There’s nothing in the bullet box but steel dust. So, the Dust Devils are perfect for safe shooting and/or indoor shooting.
Do you use steel BBs? Or have you ever tried an alternative? I’m looking forward to your comments under the post!
