In my beginner’s guide, I have recommended Diana Panther 31 among other spring-piston air rifles for beginners. I have given my reasoning in a few short sentences. Several years ago, I had also made a video about Diana Panther 31. I watched it again and decided that I would like to add some more information and tests.
Made in Germany
In my video, which I shot at the Diana stand at IWA 2019, Tobias Schmidt from Diana told us something about the Action Line and the Performance Line. The two lines were introduced by Diana to make it easier and more transparent for the shooter.
The Action Line is produced in the Far East and imported from there.
The Performance Line is completely Made in Germany. The quality of these air rifles is the Diana quality known for decades. Shooters who value the highest quality and Made in Germany should definitely take a look at this line.
The stock of Diana Panther 31
Diana Panther 31 has a high-quality plastic stock. It is larger than the one of Weihrauch HW30S which I also recommended in my beginner’s guide.
Tall shooters don’t have to adapt to the air rifle when holding it. The problem with Weihrauch HW30S is that I have to put it pretty high up on my shoulder. This is the only way I can look through a rifle scope or use the rear and front sight. Unfortunately, the air rifle then no longer lies fully on the shoulder.
Diana Panther 31 is structurally much larger. I can comfortably put it on the shoulder and put my head on the cheek piece. This is possible from both sides. The air rifle is therefore also suitable for left-handed shooters.
The robust plastic stock has the advantage that it allows for the one or other carelessness in everyday life. If the rifle accidentally bumps into something, you don’t have a dent in it, which can quickly happen with a wooden stock. Diana Panther 31 is also better protected against the weather. Water can easily be wiped off the stock.
Open sight
Both the rear sight and the front sight are equipped with fiberglass. The advantages are obvious. Especially if you are aiming and shooting quickly, the high-contrast sight helps you a lot. Even in bad light conditions or at dusk, the fiberglass sight offers advantages over a normal metal rear sight and front sight. Sighting the target is so much easier.
How can Diana Panther 31 be cocked?
The 7.5 J version of Panther 31 can be cocked very easily. You can bend the barrel without much effort. Please make sure that you always hold the barrel even when it is bent. The probability of something happening is small, but you should eliminate the last risk.
As soon as the barrel is bent, you can easily load flat-head, round-head or pointed pellets. After returning the barrel to its position and activating the automatic safety, the shot can be fired.
Great entry-level air rifle
Diana Panther 31 is a great rifle at an attractive price. Especially as a first-time air rifle or as a robust “workaholic”, Panther 31 is an excellent choice.
Thank you very much for taking the time to read my post.
See you next time!
Best wishes!
Yours, Andi
