I had a Weihrauch HW 30 S sent to me from the www.jabolo.de warehouse. Today I want to know what maximum score you can achieve with a non-tuned spring-piston air rifle with an inexpensive scope.

The Challenge project is extremely popular with you. I shoot 10 rounds on my Sport Quantum SQ10. I try to achieve the highest score possible. With very good pneumatic rifles, I achieve 104 points and more.

But you definitely can’t compare a spring-piston air rifle with a pneumatic air rifle. The spring-piston rifle has a recoil, so it’s of course more difficult to achieve a good score.

Nevertheless, you wanted me to test various Weihrauch air rifles. Of course, I’ll comply with your wishes and will be starting with Weihrauch HW 30 S today.

Technical specifications of HW 30 S

Weihrauch HW 30 S is the lightest and most compact spring-piston air rifle from the German air rifle manufacturer Weihrauch & Weihrauch Sport GmbH & Co. KG. The well-established manufacturer has rightfully relied on a very well-functioning product range of extremely high-quality spring-piston air rifles for many years. Established products don’t get discarded to develop something new. Quite the opposite: In recent years, Weihrauch has systematically updated and re-designed the stocks to adapt the models that have been popular for decades.

This was also the case with the stock re-design of the small Weihrauch a few years ago.

Fortunately, the action of the spring-piston air rifle remained unchanged. I think it’s perfect.

The gun is light, very precise, easy to cock, and the recoil is extremely low.

When the gun is cocked, the automatic safety is activated, which can be conveniently deactivated with the thumb. You can attach a scope to the 11mm dovetail rail.

My advice

If you are thinking about buying your first air rifle, I can only advise you of the following: Before you buy a cheap air rifle and scope, invest the money in an HW 30 S and shoot it with the rear and front sight. Until you are completely addicted to the hobby or have saved up for an additional scope. Because if you invest in a high-quality air rifle, the likelihood that you will fall completely in love with the hobby is many times higher than if you start with a cheaply made solution. Shooting with the rear and front sight is extremely fun and you have an air rifle to last a lifetime. This is the perfect way to get started in the hobby without having to buy a new air rifle when you set new goals and want a good one.

But now check out the video to see what you can achieve in terms of accuracy with an inexpensive air rifle and scope set. You will be surprised:

My conclusion of Weihrauch HW 30 S

Weihrauch HW 30 S is and remains an absolutely outstanding air rifle. Yes, I shoot with my Weihrauch HW 50 S from time to time. Especially for me, since I’m a tall shooter, it is a great alternative to the HW 30 S. Simply because the weight, the recoil and the whole shooting experience is practically identical to the HW 30 S. It costs a little more, but it is a serious alternative.

For all others, families, and smaller shooters, HW 30 S has to be the first choice.

What’s your favorite inexpensive spring-piston air rifle?

How did you like the score I achieved with the gun in this challenge? Is it adequate?

You can buy the rifle directly HERE.

See you next time!

Yours, Andi
